Christian sent me this lovely print (of Spirit Island) in exchange for one of mine.

Christian is a Tumblr superstar. I “discovered” him as soon as I joined, and have been a fan of his work ever since. I’ve called him a modern day Ansel Adams because his landscapes are stunning. However, I think I wasn’t fair in that comparison, as he’s quite an accomplished painter and print maker as well. I believe he can play the violin too! AND on top of all that, he’s a genuinely nice guy. I do hope I get the chance to meet him one day.

So strike the earlier comparison. He is incomparable. He is Christian Villacillo, artistic genius, and I am happy to own one of his beautiful photographs.

Leaving Las Vegas II

Hasselblad 500 C/M | Ilford Delta Pro 100

Shot through an airplane window just after leaving Las Vegas. Scanned the negative, turned 180, and merged back with the original. Love the result. :-)

It’s my birthday! And I just found out that even though people have raved about my cartes de visite currently hanging in Gigantic, I’ve sold a grand total of two. (Thanks, Andrew and Scott!)

So, since it’s my birthday, I figured I could get away with being a little selfish and put out a call to buy my work. My pie in the sky dream is that every piece would sell. That would be cool not only for me, but for the awesome folks at Gigantic. It’s their one year anniversary, after all!

For the price of two Venti Soy Orange Mocha Frappuccinos ($10), you could own your very own original futureman. Each carte is a 3.5x5 photo mounted on a 4x6 card with an original doodle on the back. Guaranteed to be awesome.

Available:

Why yes, you can buy them online! Go ahead. You know you want to.

giganticgallery:

As of Feb 20th, 20 artists will be involved. This show is going to be awesome.

Gigantic Gallery will be turning one year old this March! We met a lot of great people during our first year and, to celebrate our birthday, we want to celebrate them.

So the theme of our March show is the carte de visite, which were small, mass-produced pictures mounted on paper that were hugely popular around the 1860s. Baseball and superhero cards, comp cards and business cards and wallet-sized photos can all trace their ancestry to the carte de visite.

We want this show to be about the artists we met this year. We invited the artists to make as many small, personally-expressive pieces as they cared to. We hope to fill the walls.

Please come visit us during the opening on March 1st. It could be huge.

I just dropped my last piece off at the gallery. Dudes. Seriously. This show is going to be HUGE! AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! STUPENDOUS! And I can say that with confidence even though It’s still being hung so I haven’t seen all the pieces. If you’re local, you simply must stop by this Thursday night!

Hunting snipes

“Damnit, man, pay attention! I need the light over here - I think I’ve picked up the trail!”
“Yeah, whatever. This is pointless.”
