Sagres (by John Carleton)
Feeling nostalgic today.
In 2002 I traveled to Spain. Sheelagh was studying in Granada, and I decided to book a ten day trip to see the sights. She met me in Madrid where we rented a car and drove west to Portugal with no set itinerary. When we hit the coast we headed south. Avoiding the highways whenever possible and stopping frequently. We’d stop for the night when we got tired or found a place we’d like to explore further the following day.
My favorite spot from the whole trip was Sagres, the southernmost tip of Portugal. We ended up staying there two nights. It was before tourist season, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. I took this photo inside one of the caves on the beach at the bottom of a steep rock cliff. I can’t look at it without smiling. :-)
